University of Montreal Hospital
The Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) is a major health care centre located in the heart of Montréal. In 2013, the CHUM launched the first phase of its new building and, seeking to implement an effective wayfinding system for patients and visitors, mandated Arium as an expert consultant. In 2019, Arium was selected again to complete phase 2.
The system was developed and implemented over a 10-year period in collaboration with a number of stakeholders to meet the project requirements and highest performance criteria. The concept was expanded at every stage to make it more efficient and better integrated into the broader plan. The signage for the health care and research centres is a tangible example of the ways in which environmental design can improve quality of life for users. Arium’s holistic view and methodical approach made it possible to create a coherent and efficient signage system that is adapted to the different contexts and needs of users. Molded to the building’s architectural complexity, the project provides a pleasant and intuitive user experience.
