Jacques-Cartier Bridge
Illuminating a monumental infrastructure
A monumental architectural icon, the Jacques-Cartier Bridge now has an unmistakable lighting signature in Montréal’s urban landscape. It was inaugurated as part of the celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation and the city’s 375th anniversary, and the lighting concept is a symbol of Montréal’s creativity. Thanks to the possibilities of interactivity and programming, it is the world’s first connected bridge. Building on leading-edge lighting technologies, the illumination scenography follows the rhythm of the seasons, flow of traffic and festivities.
Several firms cooperated to design and develop this colossal and innovative project. Groupe Ombrages contributed to the concept, design and implementation of the lighting at the heart of the work of art, as well as to the pre-project, detailed design and follow-up stages. Its engineering experts carried out the technical and regulatory feasibility study and ensured the detailed development of the technical aspects (lighting equipment, electrical connections, control system, attachments, etc.). The team also supported the engineers in the drafting of the plans and specifications and site supervision. “
